duvide Jumpropes - a little bit about our history and our mission

Where do I find a quality jump rope which is durable and can be made heavy?

That was my question about 1991. I used to jump rope for long stretches (sometimes up to 90 minutes without interruptions) outside and on concrete floor. When I do rope jumping I do this to replace running and cycling to keep fit, I emphasize endurance training and not so much agility jumping.
Every rope I bought then was "trough" after a maximum of 2 months. Then I had to go out again, buy a new one (maybe tried a different one), cut it to my length and threw it away a couple of weeks later.
That was when I started to develop my own ropes. Until I reached the final version of the G2-14 (now called the duvide dG), I tested around 10 different designs of mine. Later I added two more models because people were asking for a cheaper model and I also understood that not every one wanted to have a heavy rope (now we even have a low budget model with the duvide dB).
The first version which hit the market 1993 is still here on web.archives.org: duvi-skip homepage.
Due to the fact that the jump rope market is very much a niche market have I never produced high volumes. I used to produce a series of a couple of hundred ropes, sold them and produced the next. Since 2005 I have extended my production and I am looking for new markets. The feedback so far is very encouraging. Update Okctober 2006: Starting in September with full scale production in new factory in Bangkok and introduction of the 'dModels'.

Our mission at duvide is to provide athletes who are serious about rope jumping with an authentic jump rope which

  • is a lasting and durable product.
  • can be customized easily to the right length and "fits like a glove".
  • can be weighted.
  • is a pleasure to fetch and start jumping because you feel the quality and the special swing.
  • in case something brakes the part can be replaced by the user. There will be no need to replace the whole rope or there are no special tools needed to fix it.
  • is environmentally friendly in the way that it stays with you for a long time and can even be sold later - just like a valuable bicycle.
  • is reasonably priced because we focus on the product, not on flashy boxes and advertising.
In order to guarantee the desired quality, we need to select quality parts which come at a price: stainless steel has its world market price, there are only a few manufacturers of high quality PU belts, which do business on the global market, quality hard-wood is not cheap either...
What I want to say is that, although the manufacturing is done in Thailand, the ropes need to be more expensive then the ones you probably have used before.

My personal mission is to

  • stay fit by using our jump ropes
  • try out new jumps
  • further improve on the ropes
  • provide our workers with fair wages and good working conditions

so that everyone is happy to make you happy!

Thank you, Frank Duvinage
